DM4 Translation wip

In late 2024 I started translating Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters 4: Battle of Great Duelist into English. This resulted in a cool blog post.

Change of Plans circa 2026 August 1st

This project page used to be a half-finished patch and some cope about how I’d totally finish the patch later.

I have now probably finished the patch. A bit of QC remains, as does writing the suppementary material, such as this page. When that’s done, which should be sometime within the first week of 2026 August, I’ll put it online and tell people and so on.

If you’re seeing this glorified “hey this page is 🏗 UNDER CONSTRUCTION 🚧” page and you might be interested in the patch, read on. Or, consider getting notified via RSS feed; I will blab when done.

Per this screen

In a few places we had more to say than we were able to fit on the screen. We put in work to make sure everything essential made it in, and everything that is in is a superset of what the official English translation (and even the original Japanese) covers. But, we had more to say.

The more-that-we-have-to-say can be found here: dm4.nyuu.page. I am thusfar calling it the “dm4 companion”; the name will probably stick.

Right now the structure and the data is right. The presentation is approximately done. The text is about half done and half placeholder boilerplate gunk. This of course is going to be rewritten properly. By the time I am showing people this page, the real text will be in place.

We’ve also cooked up a save editor. It’s in the browser and is delightfully FP-y and declarative. It can be found here.

We also have a mighty git repository tracking the project history. It is full of copyrighted material and is a huge mess, useless to all but myself. I will tidy it up, shallow-clone it, and share that tidied version. But I’m not going to delay “shipping”, for that.
